In a move to address the challenges faced by farmers in Talensi and other districts affected by dry spells and post-harvest losses, the Upper East Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, has announced that the region will soon be included in a comprehensive plan to support recovery efforts.

This initiative forms part of a larger estimated GH¢8 billion intervention aimed at mitigating the impact of climate-related challenges on agriculture.

During his working visit to the Talensi District, Dr. Bin Salih revealed that registration and documentation processes are underway to ensure that affected farmers are adequately supported.

He emphasized that the government’s priority is to provide timely assistance to farmers who have been hit hard by the erratic rainfall patterns and other challenges that have resulted in significant crop losses.

This development follows a recent request by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, who, in August, sought $500 million from the Contingency Fund to combat the ongoing drought crisis.

The fund is expected to provide much-needed relief to agricultural communities across the country that have experienced a severe decline in crop yields due to adverse weather conditions.

“The affected farmers will receive support, and we are working to expedite the registration process to ensure that they benefit from the government’s intervention as soon as possible,” Dr. Bin Salih assured.

He expressed confidence that this initiative would not only address the immediate challenges but also contribute to long-term resilience-building in the agricultural sector, helping farmers withstand future climate shocks.

The Minister’s visit to Talensi is part of a broader regional tour aimed at assessing the situation on the ground and coordinating government efforts to provide relief to affected communities.

Farmers in the region have been eagerly awaiting this support, hoping it will help them recover from the devastating effects of the dry spell and secure their livelihoods for the next planting season.

This announcement comes at a crucial time as farmers brace for the upcoming dry season, which poses additional threats to food security in the Upper East Region.
