EC is strongly pro-NPP – Edudzi Tamaklo

While the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been tipped to win the upcoming presidential election, the party is not resting on its laurels because it wants to win by a wide margin.

According to the Head of Legal Affairs for the NDC, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, the Electoral Commission (EC), led by Jean Mensa, is “strongly pro-NPP.” As such, the party is not convinced of the Commission’s ability to be fair to the NDC.

“If you have such a situation, you can’t leave anything to chance,” he added.

He spoke on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show today, October 3, 2024.

Mr. Tamakloe claimed that “serious” NPP supporters know that the party’s chances of winning the 2024 election are non-existent. This has forced the party to resort to underhanded dealings to try to win the election.

“Their biggest assurance is the Electoral Commission. Their hope is that we will steal. Who goes into an election hoping to steal to win? You must first accept losing the polls before thinking about shoring up the benefits.”

The Head of Legal Affairs for the NDC likened the relationship between the Electoral Commission and the NDC to that of a child and a stepmother who does not have immediate love for the child. He continued, “Our approach to this election is completely different. It is a multi-system. You are here, the other person is here. We have scattered ourselves into the field to harvest the votes.”

Mr. Tamakloe and other national executives of the NDC are in the Upper East Region to engage with voters and curry favor with them. The delegation is led by the party’s national chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
