The Upper East Regional Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Ayinbisa Ayamga, believes that for any individual to properly represent constituents in Parliament, that individual must be able to speak a language common to the people of the area.
This is why he believes voters in the Talensi Constituency will choose Robert Alibo, the NPP Parliamentary Candidate, over Daniel Dung Mahama, the NDC’s Parliamentary Candidate.
Speaking on the Day Break Upper East Show today, Thursday, October 3, 2024, Mr. Ayamga explained that language and association play critical roles for candidates in their attempts to win elections.
“They know that Robert Alibo in Talensi is working hard. Their man in Talensi doesn’t even understand the Talensi language well. He can’t even speak it properly.”
When asked why language would matter in an election, Mr. Ayamga said, “It means you are not with the people. If you want to represent the people of Bolga and you cannot speak Frafra, then how are you going to represent them? You should identify yourself with the people. If you can’t speak my language, then it means you don’t know my culture.”
According to the Upper East Regional Communications Director, the NPP has set its sights on five seats in the Upper East Region. He stated that this goal is backed by data collected by the party’s research team.
