The Frafra Unity Inter-Community Football Tournament is returning this year after a year-long break.

The tournament, which started in 2021, emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the municipality.

With everything cleared from the beginning of the year, the organizers decided to bring back the tournament in grand style, with 18 communities showing their commitment to participate in this year’s fun-filled event.

The 18 communities have been divided into 6 groups of 3 communities each. After a round-robin format, the top two communities from each group will have the chance to qualify for the next stage.

The draw was held yesterday, October 7, 2024, in the studios of the state-owned broadcaster GBC Ura Radio 89.7 MHz.

Defending champions Tindonsobligo have been drawn into Group D, alongside Sumbrungu and Yorogo, while 2022 finalists Kalbeo are in Group A with Dapooretindongo and newcomers Yipaala.

After the conclusion of the 2022 edition, the Media Coordinator of the tournament, Abagna Jose Nelson, stated that in the next edition, the winner will receive a borehole dug in their community, as well as exercise books to distribute to pupils in schools within the community.

The tournament began in 2021, with Tanzui being the first community to lift the trophy. In 2022, Tindonsobligo defeated Kalbeo to claim the championship.

The 2024 edition, which will be the third iteration of the tournament, is scheduled to kick off on November 3 and run until November 14, 2024, at the Bolgatanga Mobil Astro Turf Field.
