The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Talensi District, Thomas Duanab Wuni, has expressed optimism that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will win the December polls. Emphasizing a strong commitment to securing victory, the DCE expressed confidence in the party’s strategy, asserting that they are determined not just to win a majority but to gain additional seats as well.
“I am primarily focused on how we are going to win this election. When we win elections, we win completely. We are winning, and we will secure many more seats in addition.”
Addressing concerns about recent polling data, he dismissed the significance of these surveys, suggesting they only serve to motivate the party to intensify its efforts. “For me, I don’t look at the crowd and judge. All I do is work until the last day and until the last vote is counted. It’s a contest. We are seeking to win, and they are seeking to win,” he said.
He underscored the importance of engaging with constituents, highlighting the strong track record of the NPP’s candidate in the district compared to his opponent from the National Democratic Congress (NDC). “Our candidate has a proven track record. He is known in our district far better than this other young man from the NDC.”
He emphasized that the NPP candidate is not only well-known but also capable of effective debate on policy and legislation. “In terms of engagement with the people, I believe my candidate engages better than the NDC candidate. Parliament is about debate, and I have a candidate who can debate and assure the people that he’s going to Parliament not just to participate passively but to discuss policy and legislation. That is the difference.”
When questioned about the challenges of campaigning, Mr. Wuni maintained that their approach remains effective, focusing on strategic engagement and social activities to connect with voters. He asserted that the party’s accomplishments in infrastructure and development outpace those of the NDC, citing numerous schools and health facilities constructed during their tenure. “In this country, if we were voting on policy and physical infrastructure, the NDC wouldn’t stand a chance. In terms of physical infrastructure, we have accomplished much more than the NDC in the past eight years. When you compare our eight years to theirs, we have done more. We’ve built many more schools, constructed numerous health facilities, and even incentivized farmers. We have achieved far more than they have.”
Furthermore, he reaffirmed his commitment to community development, indicating that continued governance by the NPP would further enhance progress in the Talensi District. “My role as DCE is to bring development to the people based on what we invest. They can only hope for more if we are extended in government, and I am doing exactly that.”
