Youth Harvest Foundation Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization in the Upper East Region, has handed over a newly drilled hand pump borehole to the Yikene Community in the Bolgatanga municipality of the Upper East Region, Ghana.
The NGO, during its 20th Anniversary Celebration in 2023, pledged to provide the Yikene Community with a borehole.
Fulfilling their promise, the organization has commissioned and handed over the newly drilled borehole to the community. Addressing community members during a short ceremony, the Acting Executive Director of Youth Harvest Foundation Ghana, David Ayine, emphasized that access to clean water is a fundamental human right, which informed their decision to provide the community with clean water.
He stated, “Access to clean and safe water is a fundamental human right and a cornerstone of health and development. This borehole will not only provide a reliable source of water but will also significantly enhance the quality of life for the residents of Yikene. It will reduce the burden on women and children who often travel long distances to fetch water, allowing them more time for education and other productive activities.”
Mr. Ayine expressed gratitude to all those who made the project possible, saying, “This achievement would not have been possible without the unwavering support and dedication of many individuals. I would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Board of Trustees, our Senior Advisor, Dr. John Kingsley Krugu and his family, who personally supported the drilling of the borehole, and the entire YHFG team for their hard work and commitment. Your contributions have made this project a reality.”
Some women from the community shared how they used to walk long distances in search of water, noting that the initiative has brought great relief. They expressed excitement for the facility and thanked the management and board of Youth Harvest Foundation Ghana.
Adongo Ayine, who spoke on behalf of the chief of Yikene, expressed gratitude to Youth Harvest Foundation Ghana for the generous gesture and promised to ensure proper care of the facility.
