Dr. Michael Wombeogo, the Parliamentary Candidate for the People’s National Convention (PNC) in the Talensi Constituency, has emphasized the urgent need for community collaboration to address the pressing issues facing the constituency. He expressed his commitment to leading this charge: “We need to come together to salvage the place, and that is what I’ve offered myself for.”
In a recent interview on A1 Radio, Dr. Wombeogo stressed that the people of Talensi must unite to lift their community from economic decline. He highlighted the challenges in local agriculture, noting that the cost of basic goods, such as poultry, has soared, and farming has deteriorated to a point where it risks becoming unsustainable. He emphasized the importance of transforming agriculture into a viable business rather than merely a means of subsistence. This shift, he believes, will encourage local farmers to view their work as a profitable venture.
To facilitate this change, Dr. Wombeogo proposed providing modern farming equipment and resources to local farmers. He argued that with the right tools, community members would be empowered to engage in agriculture more seriously, stimulating the local economy and attracting younger generations to the sector. “Only when we make farming more attractive than it is now will people see it as a business, not just a means of survival. Then, they will be able to embrace agriculture beyond subsistence farming.”
He expressed hope that by making farming more appealing, educated young people would see agriculture as a legitimate career choice. “When we do that, we’re going to encourage educated young people to view agriculture as a business.”
In addition to agricultural reform, Dr. Wombeogo is committed to enhancing the educational landscape in Talensi. He plans to establish robust vocational training programs aimed at equipping young people with the skills needed for various trades.
He expressed gratitude to the young people of Talensi for their support and assured them of his dedication to driving positive change in the area. He outlined his intention to unpack his agenda to ensure that the interests and aspirations of the community are met. “I want to thank all the young people in Talensi and assure them that I have the Talensi Agenda in my hands. I want to unpack it, uncover it, and open it so that the interests of Talensi will be met,” he said.
