The Head of Arts Department at Bolgatanga Sherigu Senior High School (SHS), Martin Agana Adongo, has noted that the school, which has been under government management since its absorption in 2018, has made remarkable strides in both academic outcomes and staff preparedness.
In an interview on A1 Radio, he underscored that the school began its journey under government oversight with its first batch of students in 2021 and has steadily increased its performance levels.
The first batch recorded a performance rate of 68%, while the following year saw a slight dip to 48.5%. However, in the most recent academic year, the school achieved a 91.8% pass rate, signalling a strong upward trajectory in student outcomes.
“Since the school was absorbed ( by the government), the first batch was in 2021. The total performance was 68. The following year, it was 48.5, then last year, we had 91.8 percent.”
Mr. Adongo highlighted that the improvement in performance can be attributed to several key factors, chief among them being the dedication and readiness of the teaching staff. The school currently employs 39 teachers, ensuring that each subject area is adequately covered. He emphasised the ongoing efforts to ensure that both teaching and learning processes are continuously evolving, stressing that teachers at the school are not only committed but are also well-trained to effectively deliver the new curriculum, which has been a crucial aspect of the school’s success.
Furthermore, Mr. Adongo credited the school’s leadership under the current head teacher, noting that their active engagement has positively impacted both staff morale and student outcomes. “We are ready. The current head teacher too is active so things are going well.”
