RISE-Ghana, in partnership with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has concluded its “Democracy 360” initiative in the Nabdam Constituency. The initiative aimed to promote inclusive civic engagement and ensure sustainable access to quality social services.

Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO), the project sought to bridge the gap between citizens and policymakers, amplifying the voices of excluded and underrepresented groups in the Bolgatanga Municipality, Nabdam, and Bongo districts.

The “Democracy 360” initiative leveraged civic engagement and self-advocacy to address the needs of vulnerable communities. By fostering inclusive dialogue and equitable societies, the project built upon the STAR-Ghana Foundation’s existing efforts in the region.

While highlighting the program’s impact in the Nabdam Constituency, John Kaguna, Project Officer at RISE-Ghana, emphasized its aim to empower electorates, particularly minority groups, to demand accountability from their Members of Parliament.

“Our focus is on underrepresented groups and ethnic minorities. The reason we initiated ‘Democracy 360’ is that we don’t want citizens, particularly these groups, to be active only during elections,” he explained.

“We want them to hold their elected representatives accountable throughout the year. When candidates ask for votes, they sign a social contract with the electorate. Citizens should be able to ask: ‘You promised to address this issue; why hasn’t it been done?’

Speaking to A1 News after a successful engagement with political parties and parliamentary candidates in the Bolgatanga Central, Bongo, and Nabdam constituencies, Mr. Kaguna expressed satisfaction with the dialogues held in these areas.

In the Nabdam Constituency, the program was attended by Charles Taleog Ndanbon, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, and Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, the incumbent Member of Parliament representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

James Abdulai Ayaala, the Upper East Regional Director for the NCCE, commended the program for achieving its purpose and called for peace before, during, and after the elections.
