A group of university lecturers, calling themselves The Silent Majority of UTAG, has embarked on a transformative campaign across the Central, Upper East, and Upper West regions to promote the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.

Emerging in 2024, The Silent Majority of UTAG has been advocating for the sanctity of academia amid perceived political interference within the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).

According to the group’s Public Relations Officer, Wilson Dabuo, “It all began in 2024 when the Silent Majority emerged to protect the integrity of academia. We believed that academia should remain a beacon of fairness and knowledge, free from undue political influence.”

Their intervention, members of the group say, was pivotal in ending a contentious strike by university lecturers, ensuring neutrality and professionalism in Ghana’s academic landscape. With the strike resolved, the group redirected its focus to supporting Ghana’s Free SHS policy—a transformative initiative aimed at providing quality education for all.

Recognizing the policy’s potential to reshape lives, the group partnered with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to launch a campaign to raise awareness and counter misinformation.
