Andrew Atariwini, the Deputy Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region, has called for a thorough reorganization of the party in the wake of its recent electoral defeat. Speaking in an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Atariwini emphasized the importance of honesty and self-reflection within the party to address the issues that contributed to the loss.

He noted that the party needs to make significant changes, stressing that party members must acknowledge their shortcomings and commit to reform. He argued that while Ghanaians often wait until the last minute to act, the NPP should take proactive steps to address its internal challenges.

A key part of the reform strategy, according to Mr. Atariwini, involves constitutional amendments that would allow party members to petition leadership when expectations are not being met. He expressed disappointment that such measures had not yet been implemented and suggested the need for an early congress to analyze the causes of the defeat and begin the process of reorganizing the party. “I believe this time around, we need to make proposals to amend the constitution. When officers fail to meet expectations, a certain number of people should be able to raise a petition,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of unity and inclusivity, he pointed out that it would require the involvement of all members, including those with financial resources. He also cautioned that financial power alone is not enough to ensure success, asserting that it is the people, not money, who drive the party forward. “We need a lot of healing, we need a lot of bridges, we need a lot of people to come on board. Those who claim to have money and think they are ‘think-gods’ in the party must understand that money doesn’t work—it’s people. All of that needs to be done, and it cannot be done in just three years.”

The Deputy Communications Director stressed the urgency of beginning this process immediately, stating that there is little time to waste in preparing for the next election. He underscored the importance of honesty and transparency as the party moves forward in its efforts to regain the trust of voters. “We need to start now. People must be honest,” he said.
