Simon Akibange Aworigo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been elected by voters in the Navrongo Central Constituency of the Upper East Region, securing a decisive victory.
He defeated Alhaji Otito Achuliwor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with 26,190 votes to 12,203 votes, giving him a nearly 14,000-vote margin.
Commenting on the impressive victory, the NDC’s Upper East Regional Communication Officer, Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, praised the efforts of Mr. Aworigo and the constituency executives. He highlighted the party’s satisfaction with the commanding win, emphasizing that while they were confident of a victory, they did not anticipate such a wide margin.
“The candidate kept assuring us that he was going to win with a big margin. But you know, sometimes when you hear complaints from people, you get worried and feel the need to step in and help. But he knew what he was doing, and I must give him a lot of credit,” Mr. Salifu said.
Despite Mr. Aworigo’s confidence, the party took no chances. Mr. Salifu explained that the NDC had to “invade” the Navrongo Central Constituency, providing extensive support to bolster the candidate’s campaign.
The Deputy National Communication Officer of the NDC, Maleek Basintale, also visited the constituency twice during his nationwide tour to reinforce efforts to secure victory.
According to Mr. Salifu, Mr. Aworigo’s victory was even more emphatic than that of Sampson Tangombu Chiragia, the outgoing NDC MP, who defeated the then-NPP candidate, Tangoba Abayage, in the 2020 elections.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, the Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region, has vowed to ensure that the party delivers on its promises to the people following its successful sweep of all 15 parliamentary seats in the region during the recent general elections.
“There’s one thing I want to assure the people of the Upper East. We are part of the NDC. We’ll make sure that what was promised to us, we’ll follow up to get it,” he said.
In a recent interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Salifu emphasized the party’s commitment to addressing key developmental issues in the region, acknowledging that the people of Upper East have consistently voted for the NDC not out of mere allegiance but due to the tangible progress the party has brought to the area over the years.
