The Queen Mother of the Talensi Traditional Area, Stephanie Mosore, has cautioned Senior High School students to avoid actions and behaviors that can make them vulnerable to sexual harassment.

Speaking at the Bolgatanga Senior High School, which joined the global “Orange the World” campaign, the Queen Mother emphasized the importance of students’ responsibility in preventing sexual harassment and gender-based violence.

According to Queen Mother Mosore, while the fight against sexual harassment and gender-based violence in schools is crucial, students must also play a role in avoiding behaviors that can trigger harassment. She advised students to dress modestly and avoid indecent clothing that may draw unnecessary attention.

The Queen Mother urged students to focus on their studies, get good results, and further their education while avoiding creating unnecessary attraction. “The way you dress, you don’t create an environment for you to be harassed. You don’t send the green light. If you send the green light, by all means, you will get a response. So don’t send the green light. He can be the most handsome boy in the school, let him go. She can be the most beautiful girl in the school, let her go. You are not here for that,” she stressed.

The event aimed at raising awareness about sexual harassment and gender-based violence, promoting a safe and supportive learning environment, was themed “Orange the World, Safe Spaces Empowered Voices: End Sexual Harassment and Gender-Based Violence in Our Schools.”

The Queen Mother, who is the Board Chairperson of the Bolgatanga Senior High School, commended the management of the school for the campaign. She called for similar exercises at the community level to help parents and the entire community understand sexual harassment and gender-based violence.
