Political analyst Ayam Fidelis Atura has expressed concerns about the potential implications of the president’s recent decision to reduce the number of ministries and ministers.
In an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Atura speculated that the state budget might face cuts due to these changes, which could, in turn, improve the country’s revenue. While he acknowledged that the decision to create 23 ministries might be an attempt to fulfill a campaign promise, he argued that it does not fully address the challenges the president is likely to encounter with his ministerial appointments.
“I think the president ought to consider the situation more carefully. In my view, 23 ministries seem like an attempt to fulfill a campaign promise without fully considering the realities he is confronted with,” Mr. Atura stated.
He further emphasized that the president’s promise to appoint 60 or fewer ministers could create difficulties in effectively managing the cabinet, particularly with a large number of Members of Parliament (MPs) surrounding him.
“He should have considered his position more critically,” Mr. Atura added, pointing out that while balancing regional and gender considerations in appointments is crucial, it could make the process even more complicated.
