Peter Ayimbisa, the Upper East Regional Communications Director for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Committee, describing it as an illegal entity. “ORAL is an illegal organization,” he stated.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Ayimbisa argued that while individuals have the right to address grievances, forming a group like ORAL is unlawful and contravenes Ghana’s legal framework. He emphasized that the NPP would not engage with the ORAL Committee or respond to any of its invitations.
“They are perpetuating illegality, and that’s why we insist that we are not going to respond to them. If they invite any of our former appointees or any member of the NPP, we are not going to respond to an illegality,” he stated.
Mr. Ayimbisa further argued that the group’s activities violate established legal procedures, highlighting the existence of appropriate institutions, such as the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the police, to handle allegations of misconduct. “If you suspect that anyone has done anything wrong, you can go to the BNI, the police, or any of the anti-corruption committees,” he noted.
Additionally, the NPP Communications Director expressed concerns about the composition of the ORAL Committee, accusing its members of bias and hostility toward the NPP government. He also criticized the NDC’s approach to opposition, suggesting it lacked effectiveness.
“I think the NDC hasn’t started well at all,” Mr. Ayimbisa concluded.
