In line with his commitment to advance the Constitutional Review Process, President John Dramani Mahama has announced the formation of a Constitution Review Committee tasked with addressing gaps in the country’s constitutional framework.

The newly established committee will build upon previous work done by the 2010 Constitution Review Commission and the 2023 Constitution Review Consultative Committee.

The committee, chaired by Prof. H Kwasi Prempeh, includes distinguished members such as Justice Sophia Adinyirah, Prof. Kwame Karikari, Mrs. Charlotte Osei, Dr. Godwin Djokoto, Ibrahim Tanko Amidu, and Dr. Esi Ansah. Dr. Rainer Akumperigeya will serve as the Secretary.

The committee’s mandate is to engage key stakeholders, solicit views on proposed amendments to the 1992 Constitution, and deliver actionable recommendations that aim to enhance democratic governance. The President emphasized the selection of individuals with proven expertise, dedication to public service, and a commitment to good governance to oversee the review process.

Within five months, the Committee is expected to submit its recommendations for constitutional amendments for consideration by the Government. This was contained in a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Ag. Spokesperson to the President.
