Dr. John Kingsley Krugu, the outgoing Head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), founder of the Butt-Tis Buuri Scholarship Fund, and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Zebilla Constituency in the 2024 elections, has emphasized the centrality of family in his life and career. Speaking on A1 Radio, Dr. Krugu revealed that family has always been his top priority, stressing that no level of achievement is meaningful if family relationships are neglected.
“It’s much more important when it’s family, at least for me. I always say that everything else is unfulfilled when we fail at family. So whatever you do, you should not fail at family,” he said.
While deeply committed to his public service roles, Dr. Krugu underscored the importance of balancing professional responsibilities with familial obligations. He noted that success in life involves leaving a positive impact on society but only in harmony with a strong family foundation.
“At a certain stage in life, I believe that this life doesn’t have sufficient meaning if you don’t give back to society, if you don’t also leave footprints. It could have been as if you hadn’t come to this earth,” he added.
Reflecting on his tenure at the EPA and his career trajectory, Dr. Krugu expressed gratitude for his professional journey, noting that he has never experienced unemployment. “I see a very exciting future ahead. I have to say I’m very lucky. First of all, I have never in my life been unemployed, so I don’t know what unemployment feels like,” he shared.
As he prepares to conclude his duties at the EPA, Dr. Krugu revealed plans to take a well-deserved break, focusing on leisure and family. He intends to travel for personal reflection and to carefully plan his next steps.
“I decided that I want to take a break. For example, once I successfully hand over at EPA and I’m done and dusted, I’ll probably take time to travel,” he said.
Looking ahead, Dr. Krugu highlighted the importance of being strategic about future opportunities while ensuring ample time for family life. “The opportunities and the options are limitless, but one has to be very strategic in deciding what you want to do, and more importantly, to make sure that I have time for my family,” he concluded.
For Dr. Krugu, a life of purpose and fulfillment lies in balancing family, personal well-being, and contributions to society—values that have defined his career and will guide his future.
