The Upper East Regional Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, has disclosed that numerous key figures from various constituencies are vying for Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCE) positions in the region.
In Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Ayemvoa, the Constituency Secretary, and Roland Ayo have expressed interest. Similarly, in Talensi, Augustine Guure, the Constituency Secretary, is also in the race.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Salifu revealed that nearly all constituency chairmen and secretaries across the region are seeking MMDCE positions, with only a few exceptions. “Almost all the chairmen have shown interest,” he noted. “Almost all the secretaries are also in the race.”
He explained that the vetting process is comprehensive and involves a panel of experienced individuals who assess candidates based on their qualifications, local government knowledge, and professional backgrounds. “We have a group that does the scoring,” Mr. Salifu said. “Even the constituency executives are part of the vetting, except those contesting, in which case their deputies step in.”
Candidates are evaluated through a series of questions, and feedback from local executives is gathered after the panel’s discussions. Mr. Salifu emphasized that the process is consistent with standard practices and ensures that the most qualified individuals are selected for these critical roles. “What they are doing is standard,” he added.
