NDC’s JM succession plan will unfold naturally, says Upper East Regional Communications Officer

Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, the Upper East Regional Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has confirmed that the party indeed has a succession plan in place. However, he emphasized that it is too early to reveal specifics. He mentioned that the succession process will be conducted on a national level and will likely involve younger, emerging leaders taking up key roles.

“Succession will come, and it’s going to be in a natural way, where there will be no will, but probably your first son will inherit you,” he said he said in jest.

Speaking during an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Salifu suggested that some members within the party are already positioning themselves for the future, signaling that the leadership transition is gradually taking shape.

He also highlighted that current members of the party, particularly those closely aligned with President John Dramani Mahama, must act wisely if they wish to remain influential in the party’s future. He cautioned that failure to do so could result in some individuals being sidelined as the party reorganizes, especially when the President’s term comes to an end.

“This is one of the reasons that will make people who have a future sit up and behave well. People who are currently working with President Mahama, if they want to remain in the system, must also play their cards well, or else, probably, they’ll have to go with him,” Mr. Salifu warned.

Mr. Salifu further explained that the NDC plans to begin its reorganization process next year, with the hope that clear guidelines will be issued to prevent confusion and ensure a smooth transition. He stressed that failure to manage this process effectively could lead to disorganization within the party.

“Come next year, we’ll start with the reorganization process, and in the course of that, we’ll see. I only pray and hope that the party will issue early guidelines so that people will be guided,” he stated.

“If we don’t handle it in a better way, the party can easily become disorganized.”
