Peter Ayinbisa, the Upper East Regional Communications Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has welcomed the president’s call for the newly sworn-in Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, to focus on reducing inflation, emphasizing the importance of managing the cost of living for ordinary Ghanaians.

Sharing his views on the president’s directive to the Finance Minister, Mr. Ayinbisa expressed cautious optimism about inflation, suggesting that while a return to single-digit inflation in the near future may be unrealistic, a reduction to between 15 and 20 percent would be a significant milestone.

“As for me, I don’t expect single-digit inflation even in the next four years. That will be too much to ask, but I’m expecting inflation to come down to somewhere between 15 and 20 percent, and I believe that’s achievable.”

He praised Ato Forson’s competence and ambition, expressing confidence in the Finance Minister’s ability to improve the country’s economic conditions. “I believe that Ato, from where he sits and how he talks, is overly ambitious and highly competent. He’ll be able to deliver on this. So we are looking up to him.”

Speaking during an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Ayinbisa stressed that a reduction in inflation would benefit all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation, and not just supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He highlighted the government’s commitment to addressing the rising cost of living, particularly for low-income earners who struggle to afford basic necessities.

“We expect the Finance Minister to ensure that prices come down. We’ve been complaining about the cost of living. What will he do to reduce it and ensure that people on lower incomes can at least afford the basic necessities they require to survive?” he questioned.

Mr. Ayinbisa also called for collaboration between the Finance Minister, the Labour Minister, and other key officials to ensure that wages are adjusted in line with economic realities, helping to ease the burden on workers. Additionally, he urged the government to explore ways to reduce utility costs, thereby improving the overall standard of living for Ghanaians.

“We expect the Labour Minister, together with the Finance Minister, to ensure that wages are increased,” he concluded.
