The Headmaster of Saboba E.P. Senior High School, Prosper Kofi Tedoku has provided a detailed account of the tragic fire that engulfed one of the girls’ dormitory blocks on January 22, 2025.
According to him, the incident began around 1:00 PM while classes were in session. The fire, which originated in the middle of the three-room dormitory block, completely destroyed the room, leaving nothing to salvage. Tragically, a student trapped inside the middle room lost her life.
The Headmaster explained that although the Ghana National Fire Service responded quickly to the distress call, their fire tender failed to pump water, forcing them and other responders to resort to buckets and improvised methods to fight the blaze. While efforts to extinguish the fire prevented it from spreading to the other two rooms, the entire block suffered structural damage. The remains of the deceased student were later conveyed by the police to the hospital for checks before it was released to her family for burial in her hometown, Naboa.
This harrowing account came to light when a delegation of Old Students from the Saboba E.P. Senior High School (BOSA), led by Mr. Jerry Takal, visited the school to commiserate with the administration and students. The group arrived on Saturday, January 25, 2025, and was welcomed by the Assistant Headmaster, Mr. Kotin, before meeting the Headmaster in his office.

He highlighted the urgent needs of the affected students, including books, sanitary pads, toiletries, clothes, and chop boxes, to enable them to continue their education. He also reminded the alumni about the school’s uncompleted fencing project, urging them to revive their efforts to complete it.
The delegation was later led by a staff member, also an alumnus, to the affected site, where they observed the extensive damage caused by the fire. Speaking on behalf of the group, Mr. Takal thanked the school administration for the detailed briefing and assured them that the Old Students would provide the necessary support in due course.
Meanwhile, the Old Students Association has started mobilizing funds to support the school to rehabilitate the dormitory and is therefore, calling on the general public, philanthropic organizations and well-wishers to come to the aid of the school.
