The leadership of the Upper East Youth Association has called on both residents and non-residents of the region to redirect their focus from “unnecessary letter writing, gossip, and the pull-him-down syndrome” toward supporting developmental projects that can uplift the region.

Francis Adingo Azagsiyure, President of the association, pointed out that past governments have unjustly removed District Chief Executives (DCEs) and other officials from office.

He cited examples such as Dr. Empsona Ayamga and Prof. Ephraim Avea Nsoh as victims of such actions. Azagsiyure emphasized the importance of collective support for the newly nominated regional minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, who was recently selected by President Mahama.

David Azure, another member of the association, expressed concern over the region’s vast size and the resulting uneven development. He stated that while the association does not have specific areas earmarked for development, it is committed to collaborating with the incoming regional minister to drive progress.

Azure also lamented that the Upper East Region lags behind its neighbor, the Upper West Region, which has experienced rapid development since the two regions were separated.

During a discussion on Bolga FM’s Tinmaalgɔ Saŋa morning show, co-host Joseph Napoleon Anaaya proposed that the association prioritize agriculture, particularly initiatives like “one village, one dam,” to enhance food production and create employment opportunities. Anaaya also questioned why the Upper East Regional Mortuary remains non-operational, despite its intended purpose of easing congestion in health facilities.

The Upper East Region holds significant potential for agricultural development, with its fertile soils and suitable environment for crops such as maize, rice, millet, and sorghum. The region also boasts several irrigation projects, including the Vea Project, which supports large-scale rice production.
