The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has urged the newly appointed Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, and the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, to address the persistent challenges faced by importers and exporters across the country.

The IEAG highlighted long-standing issues such as bureaucratic bottlenecks, high tariffs, and infrastructural deficits, which have hindered the growth and efficiency of trade operations under previous administrations.

Speaking on A1 Radio, the Executive Secretary of the IEAG, Samson A. Awingobit, emphasized the need for urgent action.

“We trust that under the leadership of Dr. Forson and Hon. Ofosu-Adjare, these concerns will be prioritized and effectively resolved,” he stated.

He further noted that these challenges have not only stifled the progress of IEAG members but have also negatively impacted Ghana’s overall trade competitiveness in the global market.

The IEAG, which represents a significant portion of Ghana’s trading community, remains committed to advocating for policies that promote a favorable business environment.

Mr. Awingobit expressed optimism about the new administration, stating, “The IEAG remains steadfast in its mission to support and advocate for the interests of Ghanaian traders. We look forward to a productive collaboration with the new ministers to foster a conducive environment for trade and industry, ultimately contributing to the nation’s economic growth.”
