The Chief Executive Officer of Akuafo Nketewa, Dr. Charles Nyaaba, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration to honor its commitment to revitalizing Ghana’s agricultural sector.

Speaking on A1 Radio, Dr. Nyaaba emphasized the critical need for the establishment of farmer service centers, a key promise made by the NDC government, to address pressing challenges in the sector.

Dr. Nyaaba highlighted the importance of these centers in attracting youth to agriculture, noting that the aging farmer population poses a significant threat to food security.

“We want to encourage the youth to go into agriculture and replace old farmers who can no longer engage in strenuous farming activities. However, without proper measures, young people will not be interested in using cutlasses for farming,” he stated.

He identified labor shortages as a major challenge, stressing that manual farming methods are increasingly unappealing to the younger generation.

“Today, if you ask any farmer, our major challenge is labor. Getting young people to engage in manual farming is difficult, if not impossible. If the government can empower farmer service centers with modern machinery and equipment, it will encourage more youth to join the sector,” Dr. Nyaaba explained.

The Akuafo Nketewa CEO called on the current administration to prioritize the mechanization of agriculture, arguing that modern tools and technology are essential to making farming attractive and sustainable.

He expressed optimism that fulfilling this promise would not only address labor shortages but also boost productivity and economic growth in the sector.
