The assemblyman for Bolgatanga Soe Central Electoral Area, Hon. Lambert Akunzebe, has criticized the pervasive influence of partisan politics in Ghana’s district assemblies, describing its detrimental impact on development. Speaking on Bolga 102.7 FM’s Tinmaalgo Sanga program, Akunzebe condemned the practice, citing the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly as a prime example.

According to Akunzebe, the assembly has recently undertaken major projects in various communities without informing the elected Assembly Members of those areas. He referenced a stalled toilet facility project in the Soe Central Electoral Area, which he only discovered was a Northern Development Authority (NDA) initiative through his independent investigations.

Akunzebe argued that partisan politics is hindering development in Ghana and stressed the importance of community engagement and consultation in ensuring effective development initiatives. He emphasized that political actors should set aside their party affiliations when assuming public office.

“In Ghana, we focus too much on partisan politics, which obstructs development. As a result, projects are often poorly planned, executed, and maintained, ultimately benefiting no one,” Akunzebe lamented.

The Assemblyman also called for an investigation into the stalled project by the ORAL committee set up by former President Mahama, ensuring that it serves its intended purpose. He appealed to the chiefs and residents of the Soe Central Electoral Area to support his efforts in driving development in the community.
