The national and regional leadership of BONABOTO, a civil society advocacy organization, has paid a working visit to the mine site of Earl International Group Ghana Gold Limited in Gbane, located in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.
BONABOTO, an influential organization representing citizens from Bolgatanga, Nabdam, Bongo, and Tongo, has been at the forefront of advocacy efforts aimed at driving development in the Upper East Region. With international branches in the United States and the United Kingdom, the organization actively engages governments and policymakers to influence policy changes that benefit the region.
The delegation, led by National President Professor Samuel Atintono, met with the management of Earl International Group to explore potential collaborations for the mutual benefit of the mining company and the broader Upper East Region.
During the engagement, Professor Atintono acknowledged the crucial role of mining companies in driving economic and social development. He emphasized the importance of partnerships between stakeholders to harness the full potential of the mining sector for the benefit of local communities.
“We are glad to see the significant investments you’ve made here. The structures you’ve built could even be converted into a university in the future. We also appreciate the school you’ve built, which is a vital contribution to education in this area. We advocate for education and urge you to do more for the communities,” Professor Atintono stated.
He further commended Earl International Group for its role in youth employment in the Talensi District, noting that the company’s workforce was making a significant impact on job creation in the region.
Providing insight into the company’s contributions to national revenue, Assistant Public Relations Officer Albert Azongo revealed that Earl International Group Ghana Gold Limited paid over GHS 23 million in royalties to the Ghanaian government in 2023 and GHS 28.1 million in 2024—a remarkable increase from GHS 8.9 million in 2022. Additionally, he noted that the company contributed GHS 10.3 million in Pay As You Earn (PAYE) taxes in 2024.
Mr. Azongo also disclosed that the company has initiated the construction of a 60-bed hospital to serve Gbane and surrounding communities, further demonstrating its commitment to social responsibility.
Earl International Group’s General Manager, Li Jianguo, expressed gratitude to the BONABOTO leadership for their visit and reaffirmed the company’s willingness to collaborate with key stakeholders to promote sustainable development.
Following the discussions, the BONABOTO delegation, which included national and regional executives as well as members of the Council of Elders, embarked on a familiarization tour of Earl’s mining operations.
The visit marks a significant step towards strengthening cooperation between BONABOTO and Earl International Group, with the shared goal of leveraging mining resources for regional development and community empowerment.
