Elias Ayinbila Apasiya, the Assembly Member for Sumbrungu Azorebisi and founder of the Light of Hope Foundation, has emphasized his commitment to engaging with grassroots communities to understand their challenges and empower women and children.

Speaking in an interview on A1 Radio, he discussed the goals and operations of his community-based non-governmental organization (NGO), the Light of Hope Foundation, which he established in 2011.

“I like interacting with grassroots communities to understand their problems. To empower women and children, I decided to start something, and I have since established a community-based NGO known as the Light of Hope Foundation.”

According to Mr. Apasiya, the foundation focuses on addressing the needs of vulnerable women and children by improving their economic opportunities and overall well-being. While based in the Sumbrungu community, the foundation’s reach is gradually expanding, as it already supports the less privileged and provides assistance to those with serious illnesses.

Regarding the foundation’s funding, Mr. Apasiya shared that its activities were initially financed through his personal funds and contributions from friends. However, he noted that they now seek financial assistance by submitting proposals to other organizations, which have shown their support. He expressed hope for continued growth and expansion, with the ultimate aim of reaching communities across the country and beyond.

“At first, it was my personal funds and contributions from friends that sustained us. Now, we also write proposals to organizations, and they express their support.”

“Gradually, our vision is to reach out to the entire country and beyond, but you know it involves a lot of processes. For now, we are even extending our reach beyond the Sumbrungu community,” he said.
