The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in the Upper East Region has announced plans to celebrate Valentine’s Day by sharing chocolates with children and patients at the Pediatric Unit of the Upper East Regional Hospital. This initiative, scheduled for February 14, 2024, aims to express love and compassion to the young patients as they undergo treatment.

Speaking on A1 Radio, the Upper East Regional Director of GTA, Wisdom Ahadzie, emphasized the significance of the activity, stating that the gesture is meant to remind the children and their caregivers that they are valued and cared for.

He explained that sharing chocolates on Valentine’s Day has become a national tradition in Ghana, rebranded as “Chocolate Day” to promote the consumption of locally produced cocoa products while spreading messages of love and kindness.

Beyond the Chocolate Day celebration, Mr. Ahadzie hinted at several exciting events that the GTA has planned for the year to boost tourism in the region. Key among them are the Cuisine Festival and Emancipation Day celebrations, which he believes will further highlight the cultural richness of the Upper East Region. He called on stakeholders, including local actors in the tourism sector, to actively support these initiatives to help market the region’s unique attractions on the global stage.

The Regional Director reiterated the GTA’s commitment to promoting Ghanaian culture and tourism through innovative and engaging activities.

He encouraged residents and visitors to participate in these events, as they provide opportunities to appreciate the region’s heritage while contributing to economic growth through tourism-related activities.
