Renowned Kologo musician Guy One, popularly known as Junior Jesus, has expressed deep concerns about the state of modern-day worship, lamenting the commercialization of religion by self-styled pastors and preachers.
He believes that true worshippers, as described in the Bible, no longer exist in today’s society.
Speaking on Buuri Malema, a cultural program hosted by Moses Apiah on Bolga FM 102.7, the Kologo legend stated that many religious leaders are merely business operators who manipulate the subconscious and conscious minds of their followers for personal gain.
“There are no true worshippers of God in our modern society anymore—worshippers who would give their all to humanity, as the Bible says. They are all business operators preying on their victims’ subconscious and conscious minds to serve their own motives,” he lamented.
Guy One further accused these religious figures of prioritizing financial gain over genuine service to humanity. According to him, many pastors and preachers sell supposedly anointed items like water and oil or run private schools, yet fail to support underprivileged members of their congregations.
“If you watch them carefully, if they are not selling anointed items like water and oil, they have schools that they operate. Now, let us ask ourselves: how many of their disadvantaged church members with school-going children are allowed to attend these schools for free?” he questioned.
The musician emphasized that while some men of God in the Upper East Region have built beautiful schools, they rarely offer scholarships to children from less privileged families. Instead, such opportunities are often reserved for the children of their affluent friends.
“My point is that humanity’s love for money continues to thrive, which is why we cannot fully worship God. So, we should rather be our own individual worshippers instead of relying on these people who only benefit from us,” he advised.
His remarks have sparked discussions about the role of religious leaders in society.
