The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Wing and some constituents of Bolgatanga Central have expressed deep disappointment and frustration following the appointment of their Member of Parliament (MP), Hon. Isaac Adongo, as a board member of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

They argue that this appointment is merely a consolation prize and does not reflect his contributions to the party or fulfill the promise made by President John Dramani Mahama.

Since the announcement of ministerial appointments, the youth of Bolgatanga Central have remained patient, heeding Hon. Adongo’s advice to respect the President’s decisions. However, with the finalization of appointments, they are now speaking out, emphasizing that a board membership cannot substitute a ministerial role.

At a press conference held on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the NDC office in Bolgatanga, they insisted that Hon. Adongo deserves a ministerial appointment, citing his crucial contributions to the party both in opposition and in governance.

During their address, they recalled that during President Mahama’s visit to the constituency on May 14, 2024, he assured the people of Bolgatanga Central that Hon. Adongo’s hard work and loyalty to the NDC would be rewarded with a ministerial position.

Mohammed Abdallah, who read the statement on behalf of the youth, added that the non-inclusion of Hon. Adongo in the final ministerial list has led to growing discontent among the constituents, who suspect that internal party politics may be working against their MP.

He argued that Hon. Adongo’s influence extends beyond Bolgatanga Central, as he played a pivotal role in exposing the economic mismanagement of the previous administration through his critical assessments. Notably, his statements on ‘Walewale Adam Smith,’ ‘Mallam Atta Market,’ and the ‘Footballer Maguire’ analogy gained nationwide recognition.

“As the Ranking Member of the Finance Committee of Parliament and the NDC’s economic spokesperson, his expertise positioned the party as a strong alternative to the then-ruling government.
Beyond his parliamentary duties, Hon. Adongo has also delivered significantly for his constituents, increasing both parliamentary and presidential votes for the NDC in the Upper East Region.”

He noted that as constituents, they view his omission from the ministerial list as a betrayal and a continuation of a long-standing pattern of neglect toward Bolgatanga Central.

Citing historical examples of past MPs—such as Hon. Patrick Akake, Hon. Simon Abingya, and Hon. Opam Brown—who were overlooked despite their service to the party, he warned that the exclusion of Hon. Adongo from a ministerial position could weaken the party’s hold in the constituency and lead to voter apathy in future elections.

They, however, issued a strong call to President Mahama to rectify this by appointing Hon. Adongo as a minister, stressing that the patience of the people should not be mistaken for acceptance of perceived injustice.

While they acknowledge his appointment to the BoG board, they reject it as an afterthought and an inadequate recognition of his service.

They further insist that only a ministerial appointment will satisfy their expectations and reaffirm the party’s commitment to Bolgatanga Central.

The youth have vowed to escalate their demands if their call for justice is ignored, urging party leadership to prioritize fairness and equity in national appointments.
