Gold deposits have been identified in about seven districts out of the 15 District Assemblies and Municipalities.

This was disclosed by the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, during an interaction with journalists at the proposed Bolgatanga Airport site on Friday, March 28.

The minister stated that the construction of the Bolgatanga Airport would facilitate the transportation of mineral products by miners and gold buyers to other parts of the country more efficiently.

He, however, called on stakeholders to support the region in establishing the airport.

“This region, all of a sudden, has discovered mineral deposits. Out of the 15 municipal and district assemblies, about seven have confirmed gold deposits. And if they have these deposits, it means there is business to be done.

“When mining takes place, there will be a need for a faster means of transporting the gold to the national level without the risk of armed robbery.

“There is a need to expedite efforts to improve infrastructure. The Upper East Region serves as a gateway to Burkina Faso and Togo. Our airport will be highly beneficial.”
