“Snatched at the finish line”: Nabdam DCE hopeful cries foul over last-minute name swap

In what sounds like a political thriller, James Tenga Yindaan, a District Chief Executive (DCE) aspirant for the Nabdam District in the Upper East Region, has revealed a dramatic twist that dashed his hopes at the final hour.

Speaking on Bolga FM with Joshua Asaah, Mr. Tenga, who also serves as the Nabdam Constituency Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), disclosed that his name had been on the original list of appointees — until the very day of the official announcement. To his utter shock, a different name was called: Francis Tobig Yenwoma.

“To be honest, my name was there until the day of the appointment. This is where the suspense comes in, and you have to embrace it. The announcement came, and the name was Francis Tobig Yenwoma. I know very well that I was the candidate because I was in touch with what was going on. I have no idea who is behind this,” Mr. Tenga said.

Drawing a sharp analogy to a traditional chieftaincy contest, Mr. Tenga remarked that leadership must come naturally. “What has happened is like when you go for chieftaincy. Your prayer is always to be enskinned as chief, but if you are not destined to be one and you forcefully take over, you cannot lead,” he said, reflecting on the unfolding political drama.

While refraining from naming individuals he suspects may have orchestrated the swap, Mr. Tenga delivered a pointed message: “Whosoever is guilty of it knows himself, and his conscience will be the best judge.”

Despite the setback, Mr. Tenga was gracious in acknowledging the neutrality of the regional party leadership. He commended the Upper East Regional Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Mumuni Bolnaba; the Nabdam NDC Chairman, Zure Tetteh; and the Member of Parliament for Nabdam, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, for staying above the fray — unlike in other districts where heavy political lobbying and factionalism marred the selection process.
