The Upper East Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salahudeen Musah, has expressed regret over the party’s performance in the 2024 general elections and extended apologies to supporters who had high hopes for the party.
Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Musah addressed growing concerns among party supporters following what he described as a “disappointing performance” in the region. He acknowledged the discontent among party faithful who had high expectations but were left disheartened by the results. Despite significant efforts to mobilize the youth across all constituencies and encourage participation, the NPP was unable to secure a single parliamentary seat in the region—a result he described as deeply disappointing.
“Personally, as the regional youth organizer—and to all those who are out there listening to me—I want to apologize to them for not being able to deliver on the confidence that they had in us.”
He attributed the loss in part to voter apathy among NPP members, noting that many supporters failed to show up at the polls. Mr. Musah expressed regret over the outcome, particularly given the trust placed in him and other regional leaders. Seeking to reassure supporters, he emphasized the need for resilience and reflection, reminding the party’s base that electoral defeats are part of the democratic process, citing past setbacks experienced by both the NPP and the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“I want to apologize to them. They should not let this defeat demoralize them. It is the same way in any election.”
Looking ahead, he called for unity within the party, urging members to set aside internal disputes, name-calling, and divisions. According to him, the way forward involves regrouping, reconciling differences, and building a stronger front in preparation for the 2028 general elections.
“What it tells us is for us to go back, regroup, and come back strongly.
Whatever small, small squabbles we have, this is the time for us to eschew them—put them away. The name-calling, let’s push it aside. Let’s see each other as one, because it is only in unity that we will be able to win Election 2028.”
