The President’s nominee, Jacob Abugri Aka–Eri, has been confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Bolgatanga East District Assembly.

His confirmation took place on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, following a vote by assembly members.

The Bolgatanga East District has 16 elected assembly members and 8 government appointees, bringing the total to 24. Out of the 24 votes cast, Mr. Aka–Eri received 23 “Yes” votes and only one “No” vote.

In his acceptance speech, Mr. Aka–Eri pledged to drive the development agenda of President John Dramani Mahama within the Bolgatanga East District across all sectors.

“There are various challenges facing Bolga East. These challenges are deeply rooted and multifaceted—from youth unemployment and infrastructure gaps to climate vulnerabilities and limited access to quality healthcare and education. These challenges, however, are not insurmountable. With a strategy of patient and persistent education, I believe we can turn our challenges into opportunities,” he stated.

The DCE pledged to work hand-in-hand with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the district achieves the development it needs.

“As District Chief Executive, I pledge to work with all stakeholders—traditional authorities, religious leaders, assembly members, civil society organizations, and ordinary citizens—to create a district that reflects our shared aspirations,” he said.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, called on the assembly members to support the newly confirmed DCE in advancing the development of the district.
