The newly confirmed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga, Roland Atanga Ayoo, has pledged a transformative leadership aimed at elevating the municipality to metropolitan status in the near future. Mr. Ayoo made the commitment after securing a resounding 100% endorsement from all 38 assembly members present and voting during his confirmation.
Established as Bolgatanga District in 1988 and later upgraded to a municipality in 2004, Bolgatanga has long served as the administrative and commercial centre of the Upper East Region. Mr. Ayoo, in his post-confirmation address, emphasized that a key focus of his tenure would be the equitable distribution of resources across the municipality, an effort he believes is crucial to achieving metropolitan status in the near future.
“To my people in the Municipality, I shall ensure a balanced development in all sectors of the economy, with the ultimate aim of ensuring Bolgatanga attains a Metropolitan status in the not-too-distant future. I shall also focus my effort on making sure Bolgatanga returns to its glorious days of being a “haven of peace,” he stated.
He stressed that sanitation would be a top priority, as the city, once crowned the cleanest in Ghana in 2004, now battles widespread filth and choked gutters.
“Bolgatanga Municipality is confronted with a myriad of developmental brouhaha, notably multidimensional poverty, environmental degradation, poor sanitation, unemployment, and infrastructure defects. Anyhow, I, Roland Atanga Ayoo, am fortified in my mind that the developmental issues will be tackled aggressively under my tenure. Anybody who knows me knows that I have an overriding passion, which has been the optimization of the human potential and attainment of societal transformation.,” he indicated.
Mr. Ayoo emphasized that succeeding in this new challenge would require the collective contributions of residents, pledging to operate an open-door policy where all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, would have the opportunity to contribute ideas towards the development agenda.
He further committed to working closely with key political figures, including the Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, and the Bolgatanga Central Member of Parliament, Isaac Adongo, to advocate for major infrastructure projects such as an airport, a sports stadium, and the completion of all abandoned projects within the municipality.
He also expressed strong confidence that the current NDC administration’s policies and programs would significantly ease the economic burdens of both the youth and elderly in Bolgatanga, promising to align municipal efforts with national interventions to maximize impact.
