Assembly members of the Kassena-Nankana West District Assembly in the Upper East Region have endorsed Stephen Aeke Akurungu as District Chief Executive (DCE). Mr. Akurungu, who was nominated by President John Dramani Mahama, secured an impressive 58 out of 65 votes cast, representing an 89.2% approval rate.

Following his confirmation, Mr. Akurungu expressed gratitude to the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him. In his victory speech, he pledged to work closely with traditional rulers and religious leaders to maintain peace and harmony across the district—key ingredients he believes are essential for sustainable development.

“I will ensure that every community feels included. There will be equitable distribution of the Assembly’s resources to eliminate any perception of discrimination,” he assured.

He further emphasized that the Assembly, under his leadership, will not tolerate resource bias. “No community, big or small, will be left behind. Every citizen deserves a fair share of development, and that will be my guiding principle,” Mr. Akurungu stated.
