The Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, has pledged to prioritize proper sanitation practices across all 15 districts and municipalities in the region.
According to Mr. Akamugri, the current sanitation situation in the region is unsatisfactory and requires immediate attention. To address the challenge, the minister plans to work closely with all Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and the sanitation department.
“In this region, what we’re going to do is work with my Honourable MMDCEs. We will ensure that the Environmental Health Unit offices are put to proper use by assigning specific communities to them for regular inspections. When these inspections are carried out, individuals who fail to uphold sanitation standards can be surcharged,” the Minister stated.
He made this comment when, together with the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Roland Atanga Ayoo, he paid a courtesy call on the Tindaana of Yaaba Abolga, Tindaana Ayeta Ayimbire Atuna, to seek his blessing as the owner and traditional ruler of Tindonmolgo.
Beyond sanitation, the Minister announced that the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly will soon embark on a demolition exercise to remove unauthorized structures. He appealed to all traditional leaders to support the initiative when it begins.
The Tindaana of Yaaba Abolga, Tindaana Ayeta Ayimbire Atuna, assured the Regional Minister of his full support and encouraged him to work without fear, so long as his actions benefit the municipality and the region. The Tindaana also raised concerns over the delay in the construction of the Dorongo–Tindonmolgo road and used the opportunity to urge the Minister to look into the contract.
