Peter Ayinbisa criticizes Mahama’s 120-Day Contract, describes it as days of setback and failure

The Upper East Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Ayinbisa, has strongly criticized the early performance of the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, describing it as a period marked by setbacks and growing hardship.

Reacting to President John Dramani Mahama’s 120-day target for delivering key promises in the NDC’s 2024 manifesto, Mr. Ayinbisa questioned the rationale behind setting such a benchmark. He argued that accountability for a president’s performance is traditionally expected at the end of a full four-year term and emphasized that no external pressure compelled the president to self-evaluate so early.

“Accountability is at the end of your fourth year. That’s the time you are supposed to render accounts to the people who put you there. President Mahama decided to measure himself after just 120 days,” he said.

Speaking on A1 Radio, Mr. Ayinbisa expressed concern over what he sees as mounting challenges under the Mahama administration, even in this short period. He warned that if conditions have already worsened significantly within just 120 days, the situation could become far more difficult as the full term progresses.

“The point is that Ghanaians have suffered under these people for just 120 days. I don’t know what will happen when we have to live under the NDC for four years. If these are the problems we are facing already, then it will be difficult for us to endure President Mahama’s administration by the end of his fourth year.”

While acknowledging that the NPP does not intend to obstruct the current government’s work, he predicted a tough road ahead for Ghanaians. He indicated that many of the promises made by the NDC during the campaign remain unfulfilled and cautioned citizens to prepare for more hardship, limited freedoms, and dashed expectations.

“Ghanaians should prepare. There’s not going to be any comfort anywhere. We are not going to have freedom, and we are not going to see the things they promised us fulfilled anywhere,” he stressed.

Mr. Ayinbisa’s remarks come amid a growing national debate over the effectiveness of the Mahama administration’s early actions—particularly the “120-day social contract”—and whether the government has delivered meaningfully on its short-term commitments.
