The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Bolgatanga East District, Jacob Abugre Aka-eri, has stated his commitment to improving revenue generation in the area.
Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show, Mr. Aka-eri explained that the Assembly currently has only one revenue collector. Additionally, the district’s current size and population mean there are not many businesses operating from which the Assembly could derive revenue.
At this point, the most viable means for generating Internally Generated Funds (IGF) is through the collection of property taxes.
The challenge with collecting property taxes, Mr. Aka-eri noted, is that many property owners have raised serious concerns about the amounts being charged.
“Most of the owners of the houses that were rated are complaining about the charges. So we asked whether there’s a way to re-evaluate the whole thing and bring the charges down, so they can pay something rather than leaving a high amount unpaid,” he said.
