The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Bolgatanga East District, Jacob Abugre Aka-eri, has begun lobbying the Ministry of Education to allow for the conversion of the Gambibgo Community Day School into a boarding school.

The conversion would allow for additional facilities to be constructed, thereby improving teaching and learning at the school.

Mr. Aka-eri made this known during an interview with Mark Smith on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East Show on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. He was responding to concerns about the lack of bathing facilities for girls who have opted to stay on the school’s campus in classrooms that have been converted into dormitories.

“One of the things we intend to do is to work on the school to see whether the Ministry of Education will approve its conversion into a boarding school. We are working to get that approval so we can add more facilities to the school,” he said.

“Even outside the current school premises, I am confident the community is willing to release land for the construction of additional facilities. I am hopeful they will listen to us on this issue,” he added.

Mr. Aka-eri explained that stakeholders in education have also raised concerns about the lack of boarding facilities, which makes it difficult to properly supervise the girls—thereby increasing their vulnerability to certain social vices.
