The Bolgatanga Municipal Chairman of the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG), Rev. John Akaribo, has called on traditional authorities to temporarily suspend funeral rites during the cropping season, citing both spiritual beliefs and practical implications.

In an interview on Bolga FM’s Tinmaalgo Sanga on May 21, 2025, Rev. Akaribo emphasized that funeral activities during this critical farming period could disrupt productivity and negatively impact crop yields.

“I’m appealing to our clan heads, chiefs, and Tindaanas to suspend funeral activities and enforce this strictly. We all know the negative impact funerals can have during this period—traditionally, they are believed to drive away rain and bring drought,” he said.

Rev. Akaribo, a respected figure in the farming community, encouraged residents to take the initiative rather than wait for official directives from traditional leaders.

“Let’s not wait for the chief or Tindaana to issue a ban. Let’s take it upon ourselves. It’s for the benefit of all and will help us achieve a good harvest,” he emphasized.
