In a move to boost academic performance and ease the burden on parents, the Assembly Member for the Soe-Yipaala Electoral Area, Hon. Dr. Justice Aduko, has donated essential learning materials to final-year Junior High School students preparing for the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The donation, which took place on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the St. Joseph Junior High School premises in Soe-Yipaala, included exercise books, pens, pencils, mathematical sets, and rulers. Beneficiaries included 45 students from Soe-Yipaala JHS—22 girls and 23 boys—and 40 candidates from St. Joseph JHS, comprising 18 girls and 22 boys.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Aduko emphasized the importance of education in transforming lives and communities.
“I know how difficult it is to access education when resources are scarce. I’ve been through it myself. That’s why I’ve made it a point to support students each year so they can write their exams without anxiety,” he said.
“In our part of the country, poverty makes it hard for many parents to provide basic school supplies. So I consider this not just a donation, but a responsibility.”
In addition to the learning materials, Dr. Aduko presented citations to teachers from both schools, recognizing their dedication and sacrifices in shaping the future of the students.
“These teachers work tirelessly, often under challenging conditions. Honoring them is the least we can do to motivate them to keep pushing,” he added.
The Assembly Member also pledged a cash reward of GHS 1,000 to any student from the Soe and Yipaala communities who obtains an aggregate between 6 and 15 in the upcoming BECE.
“Let this be a challenge and a motivation. If you work hard, not only will you succeed, but you will also be rewarded,” he told the students.
The ceremony attracted a wide range of stakeholders, including officials from the Ghana Education Service and Ghana Health Service, traditional leaders, parents, teachers, and community members.
Grateful students expressed their appreciation to the Assembly Member, promising to put the materials to good use.
“This has really encouraged me to study harder. I feel ready for the exams now,” said Daniella Anabire, a BECE candidate at Yipaala JHS.
“We are thankful to Hon. Aduko. He always supports us, and we won’t disappoint him,” added another candidate.
Some parents also used the occasion to advise the students to stay focused and avoid distractions as they prepare for the examination, which begins on June 20, 2025.
