Ms. Ophelia Philomena Aovare lost her husband at just 25 years old—a life-altering event that could have broken the spirit of many. Caring for their baby while navigating the trauma of widowhood made the experience even more painful and profound.

Yet Ophelia has refused to let tragedy define her. Instead, she is transforming her sorrow into strength and her struggles into a source of inspiration for other women, especially those in rural communities.

Speaking exclusively to A1 Radio, Ms. Aovare recounted her journey, describing how societal judgment and the harsh realities of widowhood hardened her resolve.

“I went through pain at a very tender age, and society was very cruel to me,” she said. “But through that cruelty, I saw a light that made me stronger and more determined. That is what drives me to stand for the struggling rural woman.”

Currently serving as the Women’s Organizer for the Navrongo Central Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ms. Aovare has declared her intention to contest for the position of Upper East Regional Women’s Organizer.

For her, this is more than a political ambition—it’s a mission to restore hope and provide a voice for the voiceless.

“I’m going in as a Women’s Organizer of the NPP in the region to bring hope to girls out there—that they too can make it,” she passionately explained.

Ms. Aovare emphasized her deep-rooted commitment to gender advocacy and women’s empowerment. “I want to uplift women with dreams, and I’m ready to nurture them,” she stated. “Yes, I can do that through my current role, but with the opportunity to serve as a regional executive, that voice will be stronger, that dream will reach further.”

With unwavering dedication, Ophelia seeks to inspire and empower women to rise above limitations. Her life is a testament to resilience—a message that even in the face of loss and societal rejection, determination and hope can lead to meaningful change.

As she prepares to campaign, Ms. Aovare embodies a new generation of female leadership—bold, empathetic, and driven by the lived experience of struggle and triumph.
