Martin Akudugu Ariku has officially been confirmed as the District Chief Executive (DCE) by the Binduri District Assembly on Thursday, June 5, 2025. The unanimous decision to confirm Martin came after an earlier failed confirmation attempt in April 2025, when he secured only 8 of the required assembly votes.

DCE Confirmation Success Following President Mahama’s Renomination

In his acceptance speech, the newly confirmed Binduri DCE expressed his deep gratitude to the district assembly members and other local government stakeholders who rallied behind his leadership appointment.

“I wish to thank all Hon. Members for reposing confidence in me at this special meeting as District Chief Executive for Binduri District. This victory is not just mine, but it is the victory of unity and shared purpose,” he stated during the confirmation ceremony.

The DCE acknowledged the support of President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, noting that his successful appointment was made possible through the President’s unwavering faith in his leadership capabilities for Ghana’s decentralized governance system.

“I am extremely grateful to the President and the NDC for giving me this opportunity to lead the Reset Agenda in this district,” Mr. Akudugu added, referencing the current administration’s development policy framework.

Binduri District Development Goals and Peace-Building Initiative

Reflecting on the past political challenges, Mr. Ariku Martin remarked, “I acknowledge that the journey has not been very smooth, but through unity of purpose, we have reached this far. Now, the stage is set for us to push Binduri District Assembly to the next level.”

His administrative focus, he noted, would be on collaborative governance with all stakeholders to bring peace and stability to the Kusaug Traditional Area, a critical step for economic and social development in the Upper East Region district.

In a call to action for sustainable development, the confirmed DCE emphasized the importance of security for driving local economic progress. “It is only in an atmosphere of peace and security that Binduri District can support the Reset Agenda of President John Mahama,” he explained.

He also pledged to prioritize job creation programs, youth empowerment initiatives, and good governance practices during his tenure as district chief executive.

Reconciliation and Unity in Binduri District Politics

In a conciliatory tone aimed at healing political divisions, Mr. Ariku Martin addressed lingering tensions within the district assembly, stating, “Let me put on record that the confirmation fever has ended today, and I forgive everyone who may have hurt me. Likewise, I ask for forgiveness from all of you for any wrong I may have done. I am determined to work with everyone devoid of bitterness.”

Parliamentary Support for New Binduri DCE

Mr. Issifu Mahmoud, the Member of Parliament for Binduri Constituency, extended his congratulations to the newly confirmed DCE, acknowledging the political challenges faced during the first confirmation attempt in Ghana’s local government system.

“We did deeper consultations with assembly members and other relevant stakeholders to ensure this time around, the nominee secured a 100% confirmation, and I’m happy to say that this has been achieved,” the MP stated.

He reiterated Binduri District’s need for urgent infrastructure development, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the DCE’s office and the legislative representation to address developmental gaps in the constituency.

High-Profile Attendance at Historic Confirmation Ceremony

This momentous occasion was attended by distinguished political figures, including the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, traditional chiefs from the Kusaug Traditional Area, religious leaders, and NDC party stalwarts. The gathering marked a significant shift in the leadership dynamics of Binduri District, offering hope for prosperous and peaceful governance.

Binduri DCE Confirmation: From Setback to Success

It will be recalled that in April 2025, Hon. Ariku Martin’s first confirmation attempt fell short of the required threshold, securing only 8 ‘yes’ votes against 9 ‘no’ votes from the 17-member district assembly. However, his subsequent renomination by President John Mahama led to resounding success on June 5, 2025, with a unanimous vote of 17 ‘yes’ votes, symbolizing the district’s overwhelming support for his administrative leadership.

The successful confirmation represents a victory for political consensus-building and demonstrates the effectiveness of stakeholder engagement in Ghana’s decentralized governance framework within the Upper East Region.
