In a dramatic political turnaround, Faustina Abulu, President John Dramani Mahama’s nominee, has been confirmed as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly after securing 37 out of 50 votes in a confirmation process held on June 16, 2025.
Her confirmation follows a previous rejection on April 29, 2025, when 72% of assembly members voted against her nomination, citing concerns over her qualifications, leadership style, and alleged political bias. Despite the setback, President Mahama reaffirmed his confidence in Abulu by re-nominating her on June 11, 2025, through the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim.
During the earlier vote, assembly members who opposed her candidacy pointed to her alleged misconduct, including disrespectful interactions, poor collaboration with colleagues, and a perceived focus on political favoritism over consensus-building. These issues raised questions about her suitability to lead a municipality requiring inclusive and progressive leadership.
