A major milestone in healthcare delivery has been achieved in the Upper East Region with the official commissioning and opening of the newly constructed Pentecost Hospital Bolgatanga. The commissioning ceremony took place on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the Pentecost International Worship Centre in the Kumbangre community, where the hospital is strategically located to serve both local residents and the broader Upper East Region.

Speaking on behalf of the Upper East Regional Minister, Assistant Director of Administration at the Regional Coordinating Council, Thelma Felicity Akana, underscored the hospital’s significance beyond its physical presence. She described the Pentecost Hospital not merely as a structure but as a powerful representation of the region’s vision for equitable and accessible healthcare. “The opening of this hospital is a testament to our commitment to the health, welfare, and development of the people of this community and beyond. The Upper East Region has long recognized the need for improved healthcare services, particularly in the area of maternal and child health. As we know, healthy mothers and children are the bedrock of a healthy and prosperous nation,” she stated.

Akana further emphasized that the hospital is not just an investment in infrastructure, but in the future of the people of Kumbangre and surrounding communities. “By investing in a healthcare facility like this hospital, we are making an investment in the future of our people. This hospital represents hope—not only for the women and children it will serve, but for every family in the surroundings of the Kumbangre community and the Upper East Region as a whole,” she explained.

Positioned to meet the growing health needs of an underserved area, the Pentecost Hospital is part of ongoing efforts to expand access to healthcare and reduce disparities in service delivery across the region. The hospital is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening primary and emergency care, especially in maternal and child health services. According to the Regional Minister’s message, “This hospital does not just represent a facility. It represents our vision of equitable, accessible healthcare. We are committed to reaching every corner of our region with quality health services, and this hospital is a significant step forward in achieving that goal.”

The Minister’s remarks also included acknowledgments of the key stakeholders who made the hospital’s construction possible. These included the Ministry of Health, local health authorities, development partners, traditional leaders, and members of the community. Their combined support and collaboration, he noted, have resulted in a hospital that is not only well-equipped but prepared to deliver healthcare at the highest standards. “I extend my sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Health, our local health authorities, and our development partners for their unwavering support,” he said.

In a call to action directed at the healthcare professionals who will be assigned to the new facility, the Minister urged them to maintain the highest levels of professionalism and compassion. “I urge you to uphold the highest standard of care. Remember that your work directly impacts lives, families, and the future of our community,” he said, reinforcing the vital role health workers play in the region’s progress.

The Minister also appealed to residents of Kumbangre to embrace a sense of ownership over the new hospital. He encouraged them to protect and cherish the facility as a legacy for future generations. “To the people of Kumbangre, this is your hospital. We ask you to take pride in it, to care for it, and to support it in every way possible. The facility has been built for you and your families. Let it be a source of health, strength, and comfort for you and the generations yet to come.”

Closing his address, Donatus Akamugri Atanga, representing the Upper East Regional Minister, reaffirmed the government’s continued commitment to expanding and upgrading healthcare infrastructure across the region. He emphasized that projects such as the Pentecost Hospital Bolgatanga are part of a broader effort to ensure that quality healthcare is not a privilege for a few but a right for all.
