Ebo Bruce Quansah, General Manager of A1 Radio and a contender for the Upper East Regional Chairmanship of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), is advocating for inclusive leadership that fosters collaboration, shared responsibility, and growth within the journalism community.

In an exclusive interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Quansah outlined his vision for transforming the regional GJA into a more dynamic and engaging body. He emphasized that the association needs a leader who can unite its members—particularly the younger generation—many of whom, he noted, have yet to fully appreciate the opportunities available within the GJA.

“If you joke and don’t bring someone who has the ability to bring the people together, you will get someone who would split the association,” he cautioned.

Mr. Quansah expressed concern over the current structure of leadership, where a small group of executives often shoulders the majority of responsibilities. While he affirmed his own capacity to lead and deliver, he stressed the importance of delegation and empowerment to ensure broader participation and capacity-building among members.

“One thing that pains me is that, over the period, the executive always carries all the load. I’m not saying I’m complaining—far from it. I can carry as many loads as you give me. But we need to give people the chance to also work. Believe in them—that they too can contribute,” he said.

As part of his campaign message, Mr. Quansah is proposing the creation of a regional thanksgiving and memorial day, which he believes will provide a space for reflection, inspiration, and recognition of the association’s legacy. He also aims to enhance community engagement, advocating for outreach activities such as school painting projects, social intervention programs, and media literacy campaigns that connect journalists with the communities they serve.

“I’m proposing that we should have community relations activities. Let’s get closer to the community,” he stated, adding that stronger ties between journalists and the public will foster trust, protection, and mutual respect—especially in times of crisis or threats to press freedom.

With his proven track record and years of service to the media landscape in the Upper East Region, Mr. Quansah says he is confident in his ability to lead a united and vibrant GJA chapter. His vision centers on inclusivity, mentorship, public engagement, and strengthening the professional bond among journalists.
