In a significant step towards improving passport services in the Upper East Region, a temporary space at the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) premises in Bolgatanga is being prepared to serve as a center for passport renewals and new registrations. This interim measure comes as stakeholders await the completion of a permanent passport office at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).

The announcement was made by Gabriel Agambila, founder and chairman of the Alagumbe Group, during an interview on A1 Radio. Mr. Agambila noted that the temporary facility is expected to begin operations within the coming month, bringing much-needed relief to residents.

“People should have hope,” he said. “For the first time, residents of the Upper East will have the opportunity to register or renew their passports right here in Bolgatanga without traveling long distances.”

Until now, residents seeking passport services have had to travel to Tamale in the Northern Region or Wa in the Upper West Region, often facing long queues, travel expenses, and accommodation costs.

Mr. Agambila also touched on broader infrastructure development in the region, stressing the importance of constructing an airport in the Upper East Region. “If an airport is built here, it will be busier than the Kotoka International Airport in Accra,” he claimed, citing the region’s growing population and commercial potential.

Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the initiative and expressed optimism about the eventual completion of the permanent passport office at the RCC.
