The Upper East Regional Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Wisdom Ahadzi, has been honored by the Traditional Authorities and Youth Movement of Paga for his exceptional contribution to the promotion of tourism in Northern Ghana.

The recognition took place during a post-event review of the 2025 Regional Panafest/Emancipation Mini-Durbar, held at the iconic Pikworo Slave Camp in Nania-Paga, one of Ghana’s most significant heritage tourism sites. The meeting brought together traditional leaders, youth leaders, and tourism stakeholders to reflect on the festival’s success and plan future cultural initiatives.

Mr. Ahadzi was commended for his visionary leadership, commitment to cultural preservation, and strategic promotion of the Upper East Region’s tourism potential, which has contributed to increased visibility and tourism traffic in the area.

“Dear Mr. Ahadzi, we your staff are super proud of you for the many successes you’ve achieved within this short period of your tenure,” read a message from the GTA regional team. “We are hopeful that, soon and very soon, the world will recognize what you are truly made of.”

This recognition highlights a broader movement to reposition tourism as a catalyst for economic empowerment and cultural identity in Ghana’s northern regions. Mr. Ahadzi’s leadership has played a crucial role in spotlighting key tourist attractions like the Pikworo Slave Camp, drawing both domestic and international tourists to the region.

Through coordinated efforts, the GTA Upper East office has reinvigorated interest in heritage tourism in Ghana, transforming previously overlooked areas into must-see destinations. The success of the recent Panafest/Emancipation celebration is a clear indicator of that progress.

Mr. Ahadzi’s recognition by local authorities serves not only as a personal milestone but also as a testament to the transformative power of tourism in fostering development, preserving history, and reclaiming cultural identity in Ghana.

The event underscores the growing support for the Ghana Tourism Authority’s mission to decentralize tourism and ensure that rural and heritage-rich regions like the Upper East are fully integrated into Ghana’s national tourism development strategy.
