Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Apaak has announced the Ghanaian government’s policy to establish a university in every region of the country.
The declaration was made during the Erasmus+ Pre-departure Orientation event at the EU Residence in Accra. Dr. Apaak stated that this ambitious plan is central to the government’s mission of creating equal opportunities for all citizens, irrespective of their socio-economic background, religion, or creed.
“We also have this policy of ensuring that every region in the republic has a university,” Dr. Apaak told the gathering. “That is because we want to ensure that we create as many equal opportunities for all Ghanaians, regardless of where you’re born, your religion or your creed, and your background.”
The event, which served as a send-off for 30 Ghanaian students selected for the prestigious EU Erasmus+ scholarship programme, also provided a platform to acknowledge the European Union’s substantial support for Ghana’s education sector.
Addressing the scholarship beneficiaries, the Deputy Minister, who is a graduate of a Norwegian university, drew from his own international academic experience. He urged the students to embrace the challenges of studying abroad as a vital part of their learning journey, encouraging them to build global networks and demonstrate innovation.
The Erasmus+ Pre-departure Orientation, facilitated by the EU in Ghana, offers crucial guidance on visas, travel, and cultural adaptation, preparing scholars for their academic pursuits across Europe.
